Supporting Sensory Health, Regulation, and Well-Being for Parents

Do you want to feel more grounded and regulated in your day-to-day routines as a parent? Taking care of others is hard work, and finding time to meet your own needs is challenging when you’re busy prioritizing the needs of your family. Your stress and overwhelm may be even higher if you have kids with unique needs or challenges.

My consultation sessions are designed for parents to learn about their own nervous system preferences and how they can meet their regulatory needs. Whether you identify as neurodivergent or neurotypical, sensory processing and regulation affect us all. By getting in tune with your nervous system, you can develop effective strategies and habits to manage stress and improve your well-being.

Consultation is an excellent option for individuals who feel that they are “spinning their wheels” in a particular area, or who have tried other options that have not been effective or sustainable in the past. Together we will get to the root of the issue in order to find a lasting solution.

Please note: Consultation is not psychotherapy or traditional occupational therapy.

My Approach & How It’s Different

My consultation services are unique in several ways. I utilize a Coach Approach™ to facilitate self-discovery and help identify the variables that are impacting your individual situation. Rather than providing generic recommendations, this process is collaborative, self-reflective and completely tailored to your specific situation. As opposed to traditional therapy, my consultation services are effective as a short-term course of action to address specific areas of concern. Additionally, I use my occupational therapy background to explore factors that may be impacting your daily life, such as your environment, social relationships, sensory preferences and more.

I enjoy working with a variety of individuals, especially:

  • Parents of children who are neurodivergent, emotionally intense, or have unique strengths and challenges

  • Parents who are exploring their own sensory preferences and/or neurodivergence

  • Adults who are exploring their sensory preferences and/or neurodivergence

Consultations are $150 per 45-minute session. I am an out of network provider and superbills not available.

FAQs

How can occupational therapy consultation help me?

As individuals, we all face unique challenges and the variables of life impact us in different ways. This is why a “one-size-fits-all” protocol is rarely effective. The same “problem” likely has a different root cause from one person to the next. Occupational therapy is especially beneficial in analyzing personal, social, environmental, physiological, and other factors that affect an individual’s well-being. We can work together to identify the true source of your challenges and provide realistic strategies to make sustainable changes.

Do you offer life coaching services?

For those looking for one-on-one support, I offer ongoing occupational therapy consultation sessions utilizing a Coach Approach™. These sessions are collaborative, and you as the client play a significant role in identifying goal areas and take part in discovering what solutions are realistic for your circumstances.

Is this the same as psychotherapy?

No. If you are suffering significant emotional distress or need to process trauma, I recommend you seek out a qualified mental health provider for psychotherapy. My services are meant to support emotionally and psychologically healthy parents on their journey to improve their daily functioning and well-being.

I think I have some sensory processing differences, can you help me?

Yes! We all have our own sensory preferences that impact our daily lives. What feels relaxing and regulating to one person can have a completely different effect on another. Additionally, many people aren’t even aware that certain sensory environments or situations are dysregulating to them. Together we can explore your sensory preferences to help you become more self-aware in regards to what is calming versus triggering for you. Altering your sensory surroundings, engaging in regulating activities, and making small changes to your daily routine can all make a significant difference in your overall well-being.

Are sessions in person or virtual?

Consultation sessions are virtual using Zoom. Parent groups have virtual and in person options.

How often should I expect to meet for consultation sessions?

Typically, I meet with clients once every 2-4 weeks, depending on their individual needs and schedule. It is important to have enough time between sessions to implement the strategies discussed, and get a good sense of what is working and what needs to be adjusted.

Do you accept insurance?

My services are not covered by insurance companies. All services are private pay only. Superbills are not available for consultations.

What are your hours of operation?

All consultation sessions are by appointment only. I am available for consultation sessions between 9:30am-11:30am on Wednesdays and Fridays. I may be available outside of these hours on an as-needed basis.

How long are sessions?

Consultation sessions are 45 minutes of direct 1:1 time.

I’m still not sure. What can I do?

I offer a free discovery call for potential clients in order to review your areas of concern, discuss what goals you are looking to achieve, and determine if we are a good fit for each other. You can schedule that here.

Let’s discuss the path that’s right for you.
